This is Miki, Kekoa's best friend. His name means "quick" in Hawaiian, and that's what he is out on the surf, but you can't understand a word he says because he talks too damn fast. He's a real fun loving guy who always enjoys a good party.
This is Kekoa, which means "bold and courageous" in Hawaiian. He may be bold and strong out on the pipelines, but he truly is a gentle kinda guy. I used the same techniques to color this character.
This is Berko, the Thorny Devil lizard and he's as crazy as his name says. He is a master of gadgets and weapons and is the team's supplier and expert of outback technology. Even though he's a techno wizard, being out in the hot Australian sun has left a few burnt circuits in his head, so he's one of those guys. I used the same techniques to give him color.
Every team has a bumbling goof, and Dag is no exception. With a name that means "funny, and goof", this platypus doesn't disappoint. Aside from being Ozzie's right hand guy, he is also the team's means of transportation as the driver and pilot of their ground, air, and water craft. I also colored him using the same techniques as the rest, as you can see.
This is Lollie the kangaroo. With a name that means "candy and sweet" in Australian, she is sweet but a tough piece of candy. She is the sassy, free-minded, martial arts expert of the Australian team led by Ozzie the koala. I also colored her with markers and retouched in Photoshop.
This is a koala character named Ozzie. He is the leader of a team of Australian Outback "defenders." What he lacks in size, he makes up in strength, intelligence, and wisdom. I colored him first with markers and later retouched in Photoshop.
This is my attempt at a classic cel animation piece. I used a real sheet of cellulose acetate and painted the cel and the background with acrylic paint. These are some of my favorites here, with Daffy and Porky doing their spin on the original Dragnet as they play Sgt. Joe Monday and Det. Shmoe Tuesday.
I painted this piece (originally created by Jim Lee) with acrylic paint and retouched with Photoshop. I love Jim's art and I just wanted to pay a small tribute to his work.
This is a character model sheet showing various views of a Bugs Bunny/The Joker hybrid character. I used color pencils to bring out The Joker's costume and complimentary colors.
This is a character version of Buddha I colored with color markers and various other mediums. He's supposed to be a Tropical party version of the Buddha statues you see in Chinese food restaurants. I love his face. Makes you want to join him for a beer, doesn't it?
I drew this picture with the same techniques as the female value piece. Except the source for this one came from a statue. I never concluded if the monk was crying or praying. Either way, he's still an impressive figure.
Using white and black charcoal on a midtone paper really gives a great shadow value. Luckily for me, I was able to experiment with it on this model from school.
